Abstract: Tall buildings are the most complex built structures since there are many conflicting requirements and complex building systems to integrate. Basically the response of the structure due to ground motion is an essential factor to analyze and design any earthquake resistant structure. Shear wall are one of the excellent means of providing earthquake resistance to multi-storied reinforced concrete building. When shear wall is situated in advantageous positions in the building, they can form an efficient lateral force resisting system. Here the research is carried out to study the role of boundary elements in resisting the lateral forces occurring due to earthquake loads. The response spectrum analysis is done for building having shear wall with boundary element with varying thickness and length. The effect in lateral displacement, time period of building, story drift and story shear is studied due to change in thickness and length (Shape) of shear wall. In this report using ETAB software for analysis of G+25 floor building & results are observed considering performance of building under earthquake. In results we have to compare various thickness & lengths of dumbbell shape shear wall with rectangular shear wall at 400mm thickness. The percentage change of displacement, drift, story shear, results are compare of dumbbell shape shear wall with rectangular shear wall. Using IS 1893 code design of G+25 floor building with its various thicknesses & length is carried out for results. As observed form design & analysis the effective thickness observed from 320 to 350mm and the effective length is 850 to 950mm.
