This thesis aims to utilize solar farm inverter as PV-STATCOM for improving grid power transfer capacity. Solar farms are ideal during night and also during daytime operates below capacity in early morning and late afternoon period. Therefore these are the expensive assets which are remaining unutilized during this period of 24hrs. Solar farms are integrated to the grid, while integrating to grid some problems are occurred. To overcome these problems compensation devices are used or sometime there is need to construct new line to transfer generated power. This results in higher cost. This thesis present new control strategy for utilization of solar plant inverter during nighttime with the help of new fuzzy-PI controller to give the multiple advantages for power system. Also same objective is occurred during daytime along with the production of real power. This control strategy transforms a solar farm inverter into a reactive power compensator, which is known as PV-STATCOM. The PV-STATCOM utilizes whole inverter rating during night to increase the power transfer capacity of grid. During day it will produce active power along with performing above objective. The generalized PV-STATCOM model in MATLAB Simulink software and prototype hardware and there results are observed.en_US
