Abstract: | In today's world there is presence of vibration everywhere especially in the in- dustrial areas which creates unwanted sound and causes damage to the system. Therefore, it is necessary to limit these vibrations to some extent to avoid failures. So, there is a need to use materials such as shape memory alloys (SMA) and elas- tomers which are having better damping properties as they are able to dissipate the energy of the system. Damping factor of SMA wire of 0.5mm diameter is 0.0194 at Mst temperature and 0.0167 at austenite temperature. Therefore, the composite of these two materials is fabricated which gives extra damping proper- ties (such as equivalent damping coe cient is 33.16N-s/m) in order to reduce the vibration of the system. The damping behavior of individual material is studied theoretically and experimentally with the help of an FFT analyzer. |
